An agent for the Canada Border Services Agency is being credited with spotting a young boy in his home, who authorities say had been abducted by his parents, and rescued him.
Trevor Bauer, a 27-year-old father of two, was arrested at a home in the community of Saint-Laurent in the French-speaking province of Quebec and charged with abduction and child abduction.
Bauer is scheduled to make a court appearance in Saint-Laurat-de-Comte-des-Oranges on Tuesday.
His father, Andre Bauer, was also charged.
Andre Bauer said he has nothing to do with the case, but he was pleased that his son was freed from the family’s care and reunited with his family.
“The only thing I would like to say is that we are very happy, and we’re grateful that we were able to see him again,” said Andre Bauer.
The couple have been charged with two counts each of abduction and one of causing the child to be in danger.
Both counts carry a maximum penalty of life in prison.
The RCMP are asking anyone with information about the case to call them at 1-800-222-8477 or 1-866-856-4222.
